Though many apparel workers in the Shenzhen region of China are feeling left behind by an influx of higher-pay, higher-tech jobs, the two brothers operating this facility share our values--fair, living wages for workers--and are committed to staying there while others flee to northern China for cheaper labor. The employees at this sparkling, comfortable factory take much pride in their workmanship, reflected in the outstanding quality of their products. The very generous pay is in addition to free meals, a housing allowance, and a recreation facility onsite. The lesson here is that apparel factories with well-paid, long-term workers can compete on quality and service even as the industry moves away.
