Gorgeously soft, wonderfully warm, and an instant way to add a pop of color to your winter outfit, the Baby Alpaca Scarf is a humane alternative to factory farm cashmere. Because we work directly with the makers, we can offer it at a price that’s considerably lower than similar ones you’ll find in stores, especially given its generous 71 inch length. A shopper from Maryland says, “I have this in seven colors. This scarf is perfect in every way.” We’re confident you’ll agree. Its genuine heirloom quality only elevates its place as one of your Forever in Fashion essentials.

  • 100% woven baby alpaca
  • The 3 Natural colors: Natural Caramel, Natural Charcoal Heather, and Natural Pearl Grey Stripe are made with dye-free naturally occurring alpaca yarns.
  • Dry clean
  • 71 inches long, 12 inches wide, with 2.75 inch fringe
  • 22.5 micron fibers
  • Fairly made in Arequipa, Peru
Fair Indigo Premium Materials
Contrary to what its name may suggest, baby alpaca is sheared from the softest areas of adult alpacas - the back of the alpaca that doesn't come in contact with dirt, trees, etc. It’s stunningly soft and lightweight, but also stronger than sheep’s wool. Baby alpaca is free of the lanolin found in wool so it’s hypoallergenic and less prone to pilling. In addition, it’s up to seven times warmer than wool while being more breathable because of distinctive microscopic air pockets found in the fibers.
How does it do good?
The most well-known luxury wool – cashmere - has become environmentally disastrous and heavily reliant on factory farms. Our alpaca, by contrast, is sustainably herded in the Andes Mountains where families have been tending their herds in the same time-honored methods for hundreds of years. Our partner, Parcomarca, assists these traditional communities in creating operations that are both environmentally and economically sustainable.

Bought this scarf in three colors, they are lovely. With my chemical allergies, alpaca wool is free of harmful chemicals that can cause irritation to my skin.

Wonderful scarf
I got three of these in different colors to give away as presents, but changed my mind after receiving them. The colors are beautiful and have a lovely hand. Better than cashmere, in my opinion - and better price too!

Soft, did not smell chemically at all, held up to one washing and air drying so far. The multicolor stripes are pretty

warm and bright and beautiful
I bought this to replace a beloved scarf for a friend, who wouldn't give up her scarf although the edges had frayed badly. The color of the new scarf was nearly identical, and the fabric was just as wonderful (strong but soft and cozy). I hope she will enjoy the replacement for many years. And I liked hers so much that I bought one for myself in another fabulous color as an accent for those dreary winter days.

Great scarves
I am truly enjoying my new alpaca scarves. The grey one is my go to scarf and the sea blue is when I am comfortable attracting a little more attenion! Good warmth, good length, and great look! Plus shipping was quick and price very fair!

fair trade alpaca scarvesThe fiber of the gods

Since ancient times, alpaca has been cherished for its luxurious softness and lightweight warmth. It’s renewable, sustainable and it is the livelihood for some of the poorest families in the Andes Mountains of Peru.
